New Jersey BOTOX® Wrinkle Treatment

The link between BOTOX® treatment and wrinkles was discovered by scientists quite by accident. BOTOX®  Cosmetic was originally used to combat involuntary facial tics suffered by being injected into the afflicted area of the face and rendering the muscles in the area “temporarily paralyzed” and untenable to spasms. This temporary paralysis interrupted the nerve transmission from the muscle to the area of the face or forehead that created the tic. Consequently this same nerve transmission also creates wrinkles.

But does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic does not eliminate wrinkles. It interrupts the process that creates wrinkles. This is why BOTOX® treatment is not nearly effective with ‘static wrinkles’ or wrinkles at rest that are present when the patient’s facial structure is relaxed.

However BOTOX® treatment is particularly effective in dealing with ‘dynamic wrinkles’ or wrinkles in motion. These are not as permanent as static wrinkles and can be treated with a BOTOX® injection in the muscle that is just underneath the skin area.

Is BOTOX® Treatment Permanent?

Though satisfied BOTOX® treatment customers may wish it were --  BOTOX® treatment is not permanent. But this is actually a good thing. The temporal nature of the treatment allows people who are not satisfied with the results, or people who find little effect such as men who sometimes prove resistant to the treatment because of increased muscle mass, to not have to wait long until the effect of the BOTOX® treatment wears off.

For the most part, BOTOX® treatments for wrinkles begin to take effect after a few weeks and can last anywhere from 3-6 months.

Is BOTOX® Treatment Safe?

BOTOX® treatment procedures have been performed safely for over 20 years, first as a facial spasm remedy, and now as one of the most popular cosmetic remedies for wrinkles ever created. It is true that BOTOX® Cosmetic, or Botulism Toxin Type A, is derived from a food poisoning toxin, but the dosage administered during a typical Botox treatment is so small that there is virtually no chance of contracting illness from it.

BOTOX® treatment side effects can occur, though they are rare and mild in nature. Some people have experienced redness and swelling in the injected area and even fewer have reported having headaches after a New Jersey BOTOX® Treatment. For the most part these symptoms disappear within a few hours, but if they do persist, of course do not hesitate to contact the medical office where you had the BOTOX® treatment for wrinkles.
