FAQs on Female Hair Loss

There are many women with female hair loss questions that need to be answered.  If you have a female hair loss question or concern, do not hesitate to email us for an answer.  The following are the most commonly asked female hair loss questions:

Question:  Is it true that I am going to lose my hair during my pregnancy?

Answer:  Many women experience female hair loss in the several months that follow pregnancy.  It is normal to lose some hair in large quantities about three months after childbirth.  But don’t worry, your hair will return to its normal hair growth cycle within a few months.

Question:  I began losing my hair a few months ago.  At first I wasn’t worried, but it is just getting worse!  Is this normal?  I didn’t think women experienced hair loss.

Answer:  Female hair loss is not an uncommon occurrence.  Hair loss affects nearly one third of all women.  It most commonly affects women who have just experienced menopause, but it can target younger women as well.  Many female hair loss cases are temporary and a side effect of something else.  Consult a physician or hair loss specialist to identify the cause and to come up with a solution.

Question:  I am experiencing hair loss.  I was looking into using Propecia to remedy my problem, as I have heard excellent reviews of it.  But my doctor told me that he won’t prescribe it for women.  Why is that?

Answer:   Propecia is the oral prescription medicine that works to re-grow lost hair.  Generally, doctors will not prescribe this medication for women because it can cause birth defects in women who have a chance at becoming pregnant.
