Putting an End to Hair Loss

Hair loss is not an easy condition to reverse.  Because there are so many different causes for hair loss, the first step in stopping hair loss needs to be to pinpoint the reason for the hair loss.  After the cause has been discovered, it will be easier to find a solution to the problem.

In order to stop hair loss, the rate of the hair loss must slow down to at least equal the rate of hair growth.  In other words, the new healthy hair must surpass that which is being lost.  Hair transplantation is one way to stop hair loss.  This procedure, more technically known as stereoscopic follicular unit hair transplantation, must be done by a professional medical doctor who is specially trained in hair restoration, such as Dr. Pistone.  The area of the scalp experiencing hair loss is replaced one follicular unit at a time with hair follicles from healthy areas of the scalp.  Contact Pistone Hair Restoration to learn more about hair transplantation

Several other options are available to stop hair loss.  There are topical and oral treatments that work to stop hair loss.  One treatment is the oral medication called Propecia, or Finasteride.  This medication is used to treat hair loss in men by decreasing the amount of hormones that cause baldness, but Propecia cannot be used in women.  The most popular topical remedy to hair loss is called Rogaine, or Minoxidil.  Results vary with this medication, however, the stronger the strength, the better the results.

Sometimes hair loss will remedy itself if the cause for the hair loss is being treated.  For example, sometimes women experience hair loss a few months after childbirth due to hormonal changes.  This problem is not permanent and will remedy itself once the body’s hormones balance out.  There are some medications that are the cause of hair loss.  Once the medication is no longer being used, hair will restore itself in just a matter of time.
