I was tired of disguising it. I knew that my hair loss was different than my husband’s. His was mostly concentrated up top and on the sides. Mine was thinning all over but I could comb it over, tease it, so that it would look okay. Or at least I thought it would look okay. I was in the grocery story one day when a kid pointed at me and asked her mother why that “ladies' hair was so funny.” I knew it was time to check it out.

I took Rogaine for awhile and it worked okay. But mostly it just kept what I already had and in a few places grew some new hair. But I was tired of the maintenance. Tired of having to constantly think, how does my hair look? Can anybody see my scalp? A close friend suggested a hair transplant. It sounded extreme but I went for a consultation anyway.

People ask me if it was painful. Not really. Slightly uncomfortable, but not painful. It did take a few follow-up sessions to get the new hair just right—that’s to be expected. But the best thing is how everybody seems to notice how great it looks. Especially my husband, who upon seeing me said that he was going to get a hair transplant too!
