Possible Risks Associated With Hair Restoration

There are several types of hair restoration that all involve some type of risk, most being very slim factors to take into account.

Hair transplantation is a surgery.  All surgeries involve some sort of risk.  The biggest risk taken with a hair transplant is numbness around both the donor and recipient areas.  This numbness typically wears off within two or three months.  Another risk you take when you undergo hair transplantation is actually temporary  loss of hair.  Scarring in the donor area is also a possibility following the surgery but highly unlikely.  If these are risks you are willing to take, you may be a good candidate for hair transplantation.  Risks can be reduced, when doctors’ orders are followed closely.

There are also risks involved with taking medicine to treat hair loss.  The oral drug, Propecia, involves a great risk to women of childbearing age.  If a woman is pregnant, thinking of becoming pregnant, or of a childbearing age, it is strongly urged for them not to touch Propecia tablets because it presents the risk of serious birth defects.  Propecia’s other risks include a decreased libido in men, hives, rashes, lip swelling, and male breast enlargement.

Rogaine, the topical medication used to treat hair loss, also presents a few mild risks you should be aware of.  One risk is that you may be allergic to Rogaine.  If you experience difficulty in breathing, closing of the throat swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives, it may be a sign that you are allergic to Rogaine and you should visit your doctor immediately.  Other risks involved with taking Rogaine include irregular heart beats, chest pain, faintness, and itching, redness, and flaking of the scalp.

Many of these risks are uncommon, therefore should not be considered a serious threat when deciding on a treatment for your hair loss troubles.
