How Rogaine Came To Be

Before the 1980’s, there was no cure for hair loss that worked.  People who experienced hair loss would desperately try the shampoos, vitamins, and mousses that were available on the market, but nothing seemed to work to treat hair loss.  Those who were extremely affected by their loss of hair would try out wigs and toupees.  These hair pieces often looked unnatural in appearance. 

In the 1980’s, a drug called Rogaine was introduced to treat people with high blood pressure.  As a side effect to this drug, scientists discovered that Rogaine also worked to promote hair growth.  After this accidental discovery, Rogaine went onto the market at a 2% strength, as the first working treatment for hair loss.  In the topical form, hair loss patients would apply the treatment to their scalp where they were experiencing hair loss.  It produced some results; however the 5% strength that came out a few years later yielded a higher number of satisfied customers. 

Rogaine worked as the first drug to promote hair growth, in addition to raising the self-esteem and giving some hope to many individuals suffering from hair loss.
