How Hair Transplants Can Go Bad

There are a lot of things a laser can do. Remove hair, improve eyesight, and even fend off the bad guys in a space movie. But one thing they don’t do very well is help with hair transplants. This is one of the top causes of bad hair transplants and something you should consider when thinking about a hair transplant.

The inevitable enemy of a successful hair transplant is scarring. There is always going to be some with any surgical procedure, but scarring in hair transplantation can cause the grafted follicles to grow in the wrong direction or even to not grow at all and simply fall out.

Procedures like “Laser Site Creation” claim that their chief advantage is that with their microscopic beam the area of actual damage is small…or well….microscopic. And while microscopic sounds good, I mean how much damage can a laser really do, the truth is that when it comes to your scalp microscopic damage is too much. And unlike those clunky large graft hair transplants of the 80’s, where the sheer size of the plugs could cause scarring, the laser doesn’t simply scar…it destroys. By “punching” small holes or slits into the scalp to be used later for hair transplantation, the laser site creation actually removes all of the tissue on the area of the scalp that is directly below the laser. This can have devastating effects as much of the scalp tissue is damaged and is not able to get proper blood flow to the donor tissue. And not only that….laser site creation is more expensive than follicular micro grafting.

If you’re thinking of getting a laser hair transplant…don’t. It’s a bad idea. If you’ve already had one and are beginning to experience problems make sure to see qualified and experienced hair restoration surgeon who can help give you back a natural and functional scalp, without the use of a laser.
