How Hair Transplants Go Bad

They’re right. Size does matter. But in this case less is more and the large grafts that some hair restoration surgeons use to transplant new donor tissue into an area of the scalp can cause ridging leading to an uneven and highly artificial look to the scalp after a hair transplant.

Ridging is caused by the extra tissue that is brought into the scalp during a hair transplant. The larger the graft the more tissue there is. Hair Transplants originally had as many as 20-30 hair follicles at one time leading to a tremendous amount of donor tissue. This extra tissue can create fullness, which is good, but it can also lift the tissue above the existing scalp leading to a “ridging” look.
