The Reasons For Male Hair Loss

.) DiHydrotestosterone:  DHT is short for DiHydrotestosterone, the male hormone that causes permanent hair loss.  DHT is responsible for weakening hair follicles, causing hair to shed, and making it difficult for hair to grow back.  Generally, this type of hair loss occurs in men, however there are some women who are affected by this as well.

.) Stress:  Stress is one cause for hair loss in men.  When in stressful situations, physically ill, or emotionally disturbed, our hair and scalps respond to this and are unhealthy and dry.  This often leads to hair loss.  Our hair is one of the first parts of our bodies that demonstrate stress.  In other words, it is sensitive to stressful situations.  Once stress levels are under control, hair should return to its normal growth and loss cycle.

.) Illnesses:  hypothydroidism, anemia, hepatic or renal failure, and viral, fungal, or protozoan infections.  Extremely high fevers can also cause hair loss.  Once these illnesses are under control, normal hair growth should return.

.) Diet:  Protein, essential fatty acids, and zinc are all important in the promotion and maintenance of healthy hair.  Therefore a lack of these elements can cause hair loss in women.  Excess amounts of vitamin A, any amphetamines, antimitotics, anticholesterol medicine, and anesthesia  can all cause hair loss on a temporary basis.

.) Anagen Effluvium:  This is the term for sudden and abundant hair loss resulting from chemicals and radiation.  Cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy, cause hair to fall out because the chemicals involved interrupt the hair growth process.  When the treatment is over, hair growth will typically begin to grow back in a timely manner.
