Hair Loss Myth Busters

1.) There is no cure for baldness.  There are treatments for baldness.  There are several medications to stop hair loss and promote new hair growth.  In addition, there is hair transplantation.  This operation replaces hair follicles that no longer produce hair with healthy hair follicles.  The outcome is natural growing, healthy hair. 

2.) All genes for baldness come from maternal side.  You can get the genes for baldness from either your mother’s genes or your father’s.

3.) Baldness is the result of poor circulation and blood flow.  Some people think that hair falls out because there is not enough blood flow to the hair follicles.  We know this to be untrue because hair transplantation works.  This hair restoration surgery wouldn’t work if there was no blood flow to those areas. In reality, permanent hair loss is hormone related. 

4.) Only men experience hair loss.  This is not true.  More men than women experience permanent hair loss.  However, twenty five percent of women experience some sort of hair loss at some point in their lives. 

5.) Hair mites are the cause of hair loss.  The dermodex mite is said to be the cause of hair loss.  Shampoos are then recommended to remedy this situation.  There is no evidence that shows that hair loss is the cause of a mite.  The evidence shows that if this were true, we would all be bald. 

6.) Plugged hair follicles are the cause of hair loss.  Plugged hair follicles will not cause hair loss.  The most harm plugged hair follicles can cause is ingrown hair.
