What A Hair Transplant Can Do For You

Of course the reason for your hair transplant is to have normal growing hair on your head.  However, this does not happen directly following the surgery or overnight.  Typically, it takes a few months before the growing process begins.

The first thing to expect from a hair transplant is mild discomfort, for which your doctor will give you a pain reliever.  You will also get a prescription for an antibiotic.  Make sure you follow all of your doctor’s orders following the surgery.  Most complications occur simply because patients fail to comply with doctor’s orders.

Directly after your procedure, you will see grafts on your scalp, which will disappear within the week following the surgery.  Most patients can return to their normal routine within a few days, with only limiting their physical activity for 1-2 weeks post-operation.

Depending on the doctor and the patient, you may have a bandage or sweatband when you leave the procedure.  The purpose of this is to apply slight pressure to the donor area.  The recipient site will always be left open or loosely covered so that it can receive the air it needs to dry and heal.

Scabs will form on the scalp, but will not last longer than a week.  One week following the surgery, a follow-up visit is strongly recommended.  This visit is to remove the sutures if they have not already fallen out and to make sure the process is running as it should.

New hair will typically begin growing in three or four months and grows about a half inch every month.  However, there have been cases where hair will begin growing in as little time as one or three weeks and as much time as 6 months.

You should see promising results about six months following your hair transplant
