Women Hair Transplant

Historically, hair has been considered a woman’s “crowning glory” and the idea of women hair transplants was a novelty at best.  But, today women are experiencing hair loss in record numbers and are opting to have the natural and permanent hair restoration that hair transplants for women can provide.

Although hair transplantation has been around for some time, hair transplants for women are a relatively new concept when compared to the number of procedures that have been performed on men through the years.  But as doctors become more specialized in treating thinning hair in women and as technology thrives with more viable solutions, women hair transplant procedures are becoming the norm in a woman’s quest to retain her “glory” and settle in to a natural, healthy, glorious head of hair.

The primary cause of hair loss for women is known as androgenic alopecia, better known as female pattern baldness, which is often hereditary.  In other cases, hair loss can be traced to a myriad of things such as certain medical conditions, low thyroid levels, hormonal imbalances, binge dieting, pregnancy and even stress

Experts say nearly 20% of women in the United States will develop a pattern of thinning hair around the top, front area of the scalp, similar to what men experience.  However, a woman’s hair is normally thinner around the top and sides of the head and much stronger and denser in the back of the head, which provides sufficient ‘donor’ hair for successful hair transplants for women

As with men, women hair transplants uses follicular unit grafting.  Follicular unit grafting is the most advanced method being used in hair restoration and requires pinpoint precision in terms of placement.  Each follicular unit contains from one to four hairs.  The one-hair grafts are usually placed toward the front of the scalp at the hairline in a random pattern, thus creating a more natural appearance.   The remaining grafts are placed slightly behind the one-hair graft to create more density. Of the many techniques that are out there, hair transplants for women are most effective in making the hair replacement practically undetectable.
