Myths About Hairloss Products

Finding a good hairloss product takes patience and a willingness to do your research. Luckily we have done most of the work for you. These are some of the biggest hairloss product myths that still pervade the multi-billion dollar hairloss industry. Okay…let’s go debunking.

Hairloss Product Myth #1: Somewhere there exists a baldness cure…I just have to find it.

Hate to tell you this…but there is no baldness cure. However it is not for a lack of trying. Since Ancient Egypt, when Pharaohs had entire temples built that were devoted to the practice of new hair regrowth, mankind has been looking for that elusive hairloss cure.

What hairloss products like Rogaine and Propecia can do is stem hairloss and in some instances promote new hair regrowth. But when Rogaine works in approximately 45-60% of patients who use it, it can hardly be called a hairloss cure, and while Propecia is very effective in preventing current and future hairloss, it is not always so good in growing hair where there are no follicles.

Hairloss Product Myth #2: Products that increase blood flow to the scalp can help with hairloss.

This is an old one too, going back as far as the use of use of electro-shock treatments (ouch!) some 50 years ago to increase blood circulation to the scalp. Even today there a number of hairloss products that claim to use special lights to increase blood flow and thereby stop hairloss.

The truth is that the flow of blood to the scalp has nothing to do with hairloss. To a person suffering from hairloss blood flow is not the problem, proved by the fact that hair transplants, which depend very heavily on the circulation of blood, are so successful.

Hairloss is caused by the conversion of testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a hormone that shrinks follicles in the scalp. A hairloss product like Propecia works by blocking this conversion and drastically reducing the rate of hairloss. Contact Pistone Hair Restoration for more information on hairloss products.
