Discussing Hairloss in a Forum

Hairloss Talk Forum is here to answer those questions you might have about any aspect of hairloss. Here are a few of the most popular questions we receive. We hope they are of benefit to you.

1) Hairloss Talk Question #1: Do medications like Rogaine and Propecia actually work?

It’s a good question. The short answer is yes….maybe…and only as long as you take the medication.

Rogaine is a topical solution you apply directly to the scalp. It was developed in the 80’s to lower blood pressure and just so happened to also prevent hairloss. It has been found to work in 45-60% of patients and usually takes up to 12 months to see if it will be effective in dealing with hairloss.

Propecia, on the other hand, is a prescription medication in pill form that deals with hairloss by blocking the conversion of testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a main cause of hairloss. Talk was that it was going to be a miracle drug that was going to save the world. Not quite, but it is still very effective if used in the early stages of hairloss.

2) Hairloss Talk Question #2: My friends are urging me to get a hair transplant…but I don’t want it to look bad. What do I do?

When you say bad you are probably referring to is the ‘plug’ look that was prevalent in hair transplants of the 70’s and 80’s. When hair transplants were first being done, large sections of donor hair, usually from 20-30 hair follicles, were transplanted from the back or on the side of the scalp and transferred to an area up top in need of hair follicles. Unfortunately using this high a number of follicles made the transplant look artificial; not unlike a doll’s head of hair.

Hairloss Talk Forum can assure you that things have changed. Current hair transplants, through techniques such as Follicular Micro-Grafting, can transplant 1-4 hair follicles at a time and make the donor section of hair much more manageable; thereby delivering natural and permanent results.

That’s it for this installment of Hairloss Talk Forum. For more information contact Pistone Hair Restoration for a free consultation. Until then keep those questions coming and we’ll keep looking for the answers.
