What is the latest in hairloss news? What technological advances are being made that can help you with your hairloss? What medications work? What doesn’t work? We’re to here to do the research so you don’t have to.
Hairloss News Item #1 FDA approved medications do work….sort of.
Studies continue to show that hairloss medications like Rogaine and Propecia do help stem the tide of hairloss. Rogaine is more effective in promoting new hair growth with its topical application and ability to reinvigorate damaged or shrunken hair follicles. While Propecia in its prescription pill form is most effective at preventing further hairloss by getting to the root (pardon the pun) of hairloss with its ability to block the conversion of testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone), thehormone responsible for hairloss.
But these medications do have their limitations. Rogaine was found to only work in 50-60% of patients and both Rogaine and Propecia require use of the product throughout a patient’s lifetime, as the results only occur when currently taking the medication.
Hairloss News Fact #2: Hair Transplants Don’t Look Like PLUGS Anymore.
There was a time when a hair transplant meant a scalp that looked about as natural as a shag carpet. But with time has also come technological advances like Follicular Micro Grafting Stereo Follicular Mini Grafting. By using a variably small amount of donor hair follicles, 1-4 compared to the old 20-30 hair follicles, a qualified hair restoration surgeon is able to manipulate the follicles into creating a functional and resilient head of hair that looks like…well…a head of hair.
Hairloss News Fact #3: Nothing else works except for those first two.
Of course you could use a wig, or a hair replacement system as they are called, but if you want actual physical results, aside from Rogaine/Propecia or hair transplantation, there is no other product or procedure that will give you satisfying hairloss results.
Products that involve the use of bright lights to increase blood flow or crèmes that claim to rejuvenate hair follicles simply don’t work. The FDA may be a clunky slow bureaucracy but they do their homework; and aside from medications like Propecia and Rogaine, or hairloss procedures like hair transplantation, there is no product that will give you consistent results.
