RESTYLANE FORUM ANSWER: That’s not a dumb question. A lot of people have heard the term but don’t know exactly what it is. Restylane is a hyaluronic acid that naturally forms inside the human body and provides volume to skin tissue. It was originally designed to help alleviate joint pain but soon it was found to have a very interesting side effect. It could reduce wrinkles.

Restylane does this by creating volume in skin that is depressed or damaged due to age, disease, or injury. By expanding the area around the shrunken skin tissue it can create fullness to an area that didn’t have it before. This is why it is so effective in the treatment of wrinkles and as a lip enhancement tool.

Though Collagen is often used in lip enhancement, Restylane differs from its predecessor in one major way. Collagen is derived from purified cow skin-- whereas Restylane is a natural compound found in the body. This makes Restylane rather safe and possessing of virtually no side effects. Some people do experience minor redness or swelling, but there is virtually no chance of allergy or contracting an animal disease as there theoretically may be with collagen. And results are usually longer with Restylane than with Collagen, making it a very attractive choice when considering lip enhancement.
