Using Microdermabrasion Equipment

Currently, there is very little regulation on who can buy or use microdermabrasion equipment.  The federal government has left the regulation of microdermabrasion up to the separate states; therefore it would be necessary to check with your state to find out what is needed.

Anyone can buy certain types of microdermabrasion equipment.  There are “at home” versions that include a modified version of the system.  Some will even allow commercial microdermabrasion equipment to be sold for personal use.  Microdermabrasion equipment consists of the actual machine along with its various accessories.  These pieces include hand pieces, tubing, filters, crystals, and safety dust masks.  The entire system of microdermabrasion equipment can be bought as a whole, or you can find the parts sold separately. 

Just because there is little regulation and anyone can purchase microdermabrasion equipment, does mean that just anyone should be performing the treatments.  There is some regulation on who can perform the treatment on others.  This regulation is instilled by the state.  Typically, the states will require that the one performing the microdermabrasion treatment has an aesthetician’s license or a cosmetology license.  Doctors and nurses are also permitted to perform the treatments.  However, exercise caution when selecting who will perform your treatment.  Confirm that they have done many of these specific procedures before, and that they are familiar with the current microdermabrasion equipment.
